ie-LICHT - innovative and energysaving light strategies
In greenhouse horticulture, LED-lights help to produce crops all year round. However, the energy consumption of LED's and the fluctuating energy prices, pose serious financial risks to farmers. Therefore we investigate innovative and energy saving LED light strategies for improving the illumination strategies in greenhouse production. We study and develop innovative nature-inspired light treatments that help farmers save energy. This is done by studying the effect of pulsed light and twilight treatments on a variety of crops in real-life conditions. We also unravel how these light-treatments impact plant development and physiology. This project is in collaboration with the experimental research stations PSKW, PCH, Inagro and Viaverda, and funded by a VLAIO LA-project.
