Chicory discolorations
Together with Praktijkpunt Vlaams-Brabant, Inagro and VCBT we are engaging in the project "ChiQon" to improve chicory production and quality for Flemish growers. Our lab will investigate the genetic, molecular and biochemical causes of unwanted discolorations (redding & browning) of chicory "witloof". We will investigate how forcing conditions together with cultivar genetics influence the secondary metabolism in chicory and how this related to unwanted discolorations of the chicons.
