Vertical Farming for Small Island States - The Aruba case!

The new and exciting cultivation technique of indoor Vertical Farming is tremendously popular, especially for regions where self-sustaining agriculture is difficult and fresh produce are typically imported. In this project we will investigate the possibilities of indoor vertical farming on the small island of Aruba. In collaboration with the University of Aruba, we will investigate and optimize the ideal conditions to grow plants in a controlled indoor farm. We will grow favorable specialty crops with a short storage life, to reduce the dependency of import. We will translate our knowledge on plant physiology, agronomy and innovative vertical farming into a real-life situation to provide locally produced fruits and vegetables and make Aruba's economy and food production more sustainable.
